One of the more iconic items of the classic original was its instrument cluster, with the 5 gauges still in use on its latest iterations.
Because we completely overhaul all classic functions and add new functionality, this needs to be reflected in the instruments as well. We had some considerations that we would like to share.
Resemblance with original
The original solution was beautifully minimalistic, although not always consistent. We really like the resemblance and consistency of our current state solution.
Intuitive information
The 5 gauges provide us with quite a bit of instrument real estate. Currently, we’ve assigned the center gauge to the most important driving functions, such as speed and warnings. Gauge 2 shows energy usage/regeneration and range prediction while number 4 provides user relief on the enormous amount of available power. Finally, gauge 1 shows the battery’s State of Charge and #5 tells you what time it is… a regular and unspectacularly functional clock!
